VIRTUS Data Centres, London’s leading data centre company and part of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Group, has today announced the opening of its LONDON6 and LONDON10 data centres.

LONDON6, on the VIRTUS Stockley Park campus, and LONDON10, VIRTUS’ third data centre on the Slough Trading Estate, will both open in early Q2 2020. These new facilities will provide 23MW over more than 10,000m2 of technical space. They are being built to Uptime Tier III standard and will further expand some of the most advanced campuses in the UK. The data centres will enable customers to future-proof their expansion options for flexible colocation on sites that have the scale to deliver medium to longer term capacity.

As VIRTUS continues to deliver on its track record of providing operational excellence of highly efficient and sustainable data centre infrastructure to its customers, these new sites will join VIRTUS’ existing facilities in using 100 per cent renewable energy. LONDON6 and LONDON10 will be certified to ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO9001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 20000-1. These standards ensure VIRTUS is applying externally verified best practice techniques, including the achievement of operational goals in waste, water, emissions and energy management. As a result, VIRTUS’ buildings are in the top ten per cent of green commercial properties in the UK, and are built and managed sustainably.

This development reflects a growing demand from customers to bring their storage and compute infrastructure closer to end users in order to lower network costs and improve the performance of their applications - something that is difficult to do without the technical expertise and investment of a data centre specialist. Harnessing the performance and increased quality of user experience resulting from the lower latency accessible through edge computing means happier customers. This, combined with the huge scale of the VIRTUS campuses, provides hyperscalers with the perfect IT partner.

Neil Cresswell, CEO of VIRTUS Data Centres, commented, “The economies of scale of modern cloud computing and large modern data centres provide a highly efficient and sustainable method of powering today’s business computing. These new builds use 100 per cent renewable energy with a very efficient power usage effectiveness ratio, supporting the UK’s target of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Our expanding 165MW portfolio is able to scale flexibly to the demands of the largest of users and enterprise customers alike, with the personal service that VIRTUS is renowned for.”
