The move will see the company create more than 350 new jobs in the UK in 2019, expand its site in Birmingham, open a new office in Scotland and build new capabilities to accelerate the delivery of the latest technological innovations to industries in the UK.
NTT DATA UK is the UK subsidiary of Japan-based NTT DATA, which invests more than £2bn globally on research and development every year. The £68 million investment will mean organisations in the UK can benefit directly from the best of Japanese innovation and deliver on their digital transformation ambitions.
NTT DATA UK was supported in the investment by the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) who provided the business with information and specialist support on the UK innovation ecosystem, best locations for the innovation centre, and sourcing R&D tax credits. DIT has supported the business on a number of its investments over recent years and has helped raise the company’s profile in the UK.
NTT DATA UK is already growing organically by 15-20% every year and the investment will supercharge its growth across several key areas:
Recruitment of 350+ people per year in the UK, in roles including software engineering and development, specialist technical and consultancy skills in AI, Big Data and DevOps among others Capability building to address digital agendas across industries including accelerating advisory services, developing proprietary IP based assets, and an alliance and partner network. Simon Williams, CEO of NTT DATA UK, commented: “The UK is competing in a highly competitive global market, but is ideally placed to thrive as an innovation hub for Europe and the rest of the world. We are ideally positioned to help our UK clients become more agile and succeed in their market”.
Secretary of State for International Trade Dr Liam Fox said: “NTT DATA investment in the UK demonstrates our ability to attract some of the world’s biggest companies, underlining our position as the number one destination for foreign investment in Europe.
NTT DATA, with its roots in Japan, is today a player on a global scale and one of the leading sources of the technology innovation that is driving business growth and productivity across all sectors. Their investment and commitment to the UK is a significant endorsement of the fundamental strength and dynamism of our economy.
