Zayo expands and upgrades long haul fibre in the UK

Telecommunications

Zayo Group, announced this week that it is extending and upgrading a new long haul fibre ring in the UK to enable its multinational customers to traverse the country via the most direct, low-latency paths. The 500-kilometer ring, which includes new build, will also provide access to the UK’s latest subsea cable crossings in both the Irish and North Seas.

As part of the project, Zayo will increase the overall fibre count on its existing UK network, and add two new unique routes, spanning from coast-to-coast, in order to complete the ring. The project, expected to be completed in less than 12 months, incorporates advanced, high-count, ultra-low loss fibre types, built over the shortest physical paths, providing Zayo customers with maximum scalability and throughput.

Based on demand from multiple tenants, Zayo expects a strong return on capital on these unique fibre routes. The routes will also be available for wavelengths.

The project, the largest build Zayo has undertaken in Europe to date, is another example of the momentum of Zayo’s European business. Zayo’s network extends across eight European countries and major cities and includes more than one million fibre kilometers. Zayo recently announced additional success-based metro expansions in London, Paris, Dublin and Amsterdam.

“Our continued expansion underscores our commitment to Europe and provides opportunity for customers who can benefit from our fibre network, data centre footprint and extensive connectivity across our global network,” said Annette Murphy, Managing Director of Zayo Europe.
