Equinix has announced that it has appointed Eugene Bergen Henegouwen as President, EMEA.
The company revealed that he will manage the Country Managing Directors, the regional Corporate Development team and regional Business Development teams to ensure the company continues to drive high returns on its investments and accelerates interconnection growth.
Bergen succeeds Eric Schwartz who served as President, EMEA, since 2008 and was appointed to Chief Strategy and Development Officer, overseeing Corporate Strategy, Corporate Development, Business Development, Real Estate, Capital Planning and the company’s hyperscale initiatives.
“In my new role as President of EMEA, I am looking forward to working with the more than 2,500 employees that make up our amazing regional team to pursue our collective goals,” said Bergen.
“By pressing our unique advantage, by bringing our best efforts to the company every day, and serving our customers, we can continue to build a company of historical significance.”
Bergen joined Equinix in 2013 as Senior Vice President of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
In his previous role as SVP of Sales for EMEA revenues tripled in six years, and had reinforced a strong drive in the sales teams to become trusted advisers by understanding the challenges of Equinix customers on their path to digital transformation, according to the company.
Prior to joining Equinix, Bergen was Executive Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA for the leading global mobile technology firm Syniverse Inc.
Under his management, Syniverse market share in EMEA increased to 70% in nine years, and he also held top-level positions in high technology companies in the U.S. and the Netherlands, including serving as CEO for IMC in Boston and as CEO for AVIO Digital Inc. based in Redwood City, California.
He also held senior-level management positions with Philips Business Electronics and Philips Telecommunications and Data Systems.
“As SVP of Sales in EMEA for the last six years, Eugene has proven himself to be an exceptional leader,” said Karl Strohmeyer, Chief Customer & Revenue Officer at Equinix.
“I am very pleased that he has accepted this challenge to take the EMEA business and team to the next level.
“He brings a wealth of business insights, leadership experience and energy that will serve the region, our customers and teams well.”
