Pokémon Go creator Niantic Labs’ CEO is hacked as people want the game brought to Brazil

Posted by Admin | August 1, 2016 | IT Security

The world has been pretty obsessed with Pokémon Go over the past few weeks, though bugs and server issues have threatened to temper users’ bid to catch ’em all.

As a result, creator Niantic Labs has been busy trying to patch the game while also shutting down third-party apps and continuing to roll the title out to different regions.

Over the weekend, company CEO John Hanke had to deal with another problem – his Twitter was hacked.

He becomes the latest in a long line of high-profile hackings, with most, including this one, being performed by a community known as OurMine.

The group posted a series of tweets to Hanke’s 16,000 followers after hacking both his Twitter and Quora accounts, with some reports also indicating his Facebook and Foursquare were compromised.

While hacks like this are usually focused on notifying companies about their lax security, OurMine claimed that this particular hack was also for Brazil, where the augmented reality game is yet to be released.

Taking a look at the hashtag, though, many believed the move was a poor way to illustrate a protest.
