What was your first sales job?

Working as a Christmas Temp in Dixons, selling state of the art technology like dual cassette decks.


What technological advancements make your job easier now than it did when you first started?

Advancements in mobility have made the greatest impact on my working life. When I started I had to be in the office at weekends to undertake mundane administration tasks. Now with a simple laptop and smart phone I can work when and where I want giving me a great work/life balance.


What makes your company better than your competitors?

The amazing people that work for Bright Cloud.


What will be the biggest challenges you will face in your job over the next 6 months?

Coping with the growth of the business



What are the biggest recruitment issues you are facing in your sector?

The scarcity of suitably skilled Contact Centre Consultants.


Which part of a CV do you like to look at first?

The profile; as I am looking for the key words in the profile that will fit the role. In the case of Sales Personnel have they consistently achieved/overachieved targets.


What is the strangest question a candidate has asked you in an interview?

I have never really had a strange question. I have had many daft questions which leads to a short interview.


Top 3 excuses you have heard from sales people who fail to deliver?

The reason I didn’t get the order was due to: Pre-Sales, Post-Sales, Service Delivery,
Support in fact anyone else apart from the sales people.
We haven’t lost the deal it has just moved. The client has lost the budget.



Are people leaving education equipped to succeed within this industry? 

Not really. In my experience they have the technical skills. However they seem to lack a number of simple business skills that will allow them to succeed, for example the ability to be flexible and not just work standard business hours.



Why do you think people like to work for you?

I put a framework in place that allows them to grow their skills and expertise.


What do you think your customers say about you?

That I am ethical, professional and using a very old cliché “willing to do the extra mile”



How do you switch off from work? 

Running


What was the last book you read?

I have just finished “Touching Distance” The latest book from Graham Hurley a fabulous crime writer.


What is your proudest achievement outside of work?

My Coaching Practice – making a difference to the lives of my clients – helping them find their path in life


What technology could you not live without?

Smart Phone with a good quality wireless connection, It provides everything I need, radio, TV, films, books, internet, connection with friends, camera , running applications, torch etc.


If you were prime minister for a day what law would you pass?

Increase the Motorway speed limit to 80 mph.
