What was your first sales job?

Pharmaceutical Sales Rep

What technological advancements make your job easier now than it did when you first started?

Online CRM and MI systems, I remember the days of trawling through pages of sales data in a big book to try and work out how I was getting on!

What makes your company better than your competitors?

The People and the effort we put into getting to know our potential customers

What are the biggest recruitment issues you are facing in your sector?

Getting candidates with the actual experience we want and that are prepared to put in the work required of a sales role in today’s market.

Which part of a CV do you like to look at first?

The bio – how does the candidate describe and sell themselves, which is actually one of the most difficult things to do.

Top 3 excuses you have heard from sales people who fail to deliver?

1. My target was too high
2. There are not enough good accounts to target
3. Nobody wants to buy

Are people leaving education equipped to succeed within this industry?

They are well equipped in terms of their exposure to new tech and modern communication mediums but lack some of the fundamental basics required in business.

Why do you think people like to work for you?

I’m honest about my expectations, I try to be clear with my colleagues and I always give people a chance to succeed.

What do you think your customers say about you?

Hopefully that I display some knowledge and empathy for their issues and try and find ways to help them progress.

How do you switch off from work?

I’m into Crossfit which entails getting up ridiculously early in the morning to get sessions in and love spending time with my young family.

What was the last book you read?

Coach John Wooden’s book – Wooden on Leadershop. Amazing man, he knew how to get the best out of his teams.

What is your proudest achievement outside of work?

I played a high standard of rugby when I was younger and I’ve been travelling on my own but my proudest achievements come from those times when I have set my mind to something significant and achieved it.

What technology could you not live without?

Smartphone, don’t mind which brand!

If you were the Prime Minister for a day what law would you pass?

That TFL have to refund passengers for those times when workers strike or they put on “rail replacement” services.

What talent do you posses that no one else knew until now?

At School I was in the “barber shop” choir, I never actually sang at any live events in the end, I think I was too nervous!
