Luton Extends Civica Transformation Deal

Council takes partnership into unified communications and IT asset management

Luton Borough Council has increased the scope of its partnership agreement with digital solutions company Civica, moving from core IT outsourcing into the provision of unified communications and IT asset management.

The move will also involve the company managing the council’s updates, hardware repair and disaster recovery, as well as managing all the relevant third party relationships.

It marks the extension of a 10-year Project Genesis contract signed in 2011, reportedly valued at £34 million, under which some Luton IT staff were transferred to Civica. The company said the new deal will run for 10 years from now, but has not made its value public.

Trevor Holden, Luton’s chief executive, said: “Civica will deliver the IT services and flexible infrastructure required for us to achieve our digital ambition to revolutionise the way that residents access services.

“More of our offerings will now be automated and available 24/7 online, allowing for rapid self-service. And everything is secure by design so we and our users can do so with complete peace of mind.”

Among the benefits expected from the deal are that it will support Luton’s strategy to increase its use of cloud computing, and provide a foundation for its commercial organisation Luton Traded Services. The latter delivers a range of services including pest control, passenger transport and building maintenance.
