Avaya Turns the Focus on Moving Mid-Market Customers to the Cloud

The “Powered by Avaya” campaign aims at working with the channel to get more mid-market customers to move to the cloud

Avaya is setting its sights on getting more mid market customers to make the move to the cloud and is getting the channel lined up to support the campaign.


The “Powered by Avaya” cloud offering is meant to help customers with options to move at their own pace to a hosted environment but in the knowledge that the vendor and its partners is taking the headaches out of the process.

To support the iniative ScanSource has been appointed by Avaya as its first wholesale distribution partner in the EU to carry the vendor’s cloud solutions.

Some resellers have already been piloting the “Powered by Avaya” programme, including the Six Degrees Group and Formation Tech. Many more will now be able to also offer unified comms, contact centre and video conferencing solutions on-premise, hybrid or fully cloud.

“The mid-market sector is the engine room of the UK economy, but is all too-often overlooked, with vendors either focusing on larger enterprise customers, or providing solutions that don’t deliver the scalability, resiliency, and flexibility mid-market customers are looking for,” said Ioan MacRae, UK managing director at Avaya.

Avaya quoted numbers that indicate that the mid-market is ripe for more cloud action with it expected to rise across western Europe at a compound annual growth rate of 23.2% between 2015 and 2020, according to IDC. The analyst house is forecasting spending in the region to hit $24.1bn this year.

“‘Powered by Avaya’ will give growing, mid-sized companies access to a robust business-grade cloud option with their UC, CC and video communications for the first time, with the same reliability and security expected by end-users and synonymous with the Avaya brand,” he added.

MacRae said that its decision to appoint ScanSource was to reach more resellers across Europe and it had responded to demand in the region for more cloud support.

This partnership with Avaya will enable us to give our partners the freedom to sell cloud-based solutions to their customers, while benefiting from the reliability and quality that is synonymous with the Avaya brand,” said James Vickerage, president, ScanSource Imago.

The “Powered by Avaya” campaign gives the vendor something positive to talk about after a poor start to the year, with the firm filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US. The European operation, which was not affected by the move, has distanced itself from that event and can now turn the spotlight back onto talking about channel growth.
